Face off

This first shot we see of a man with some sort of sniper rifle creates the enigma, and that is because he has a moustache which usually shows us that he is rather mysterious, and also the camera shot never actually completely reveals his whole face along with his hair, and we can remember a lot of people by their hair. After this, he peers into his lens and we catch a shot of what his target is, and we see a man with what it looks to be like his son. From this we can tell that he is a villain due to the fact he is obviously pointing a gun to a father and his child and is also created as a mysterious character.

The mysterious man goes on to shoot the father and then realises he has hit his son too, but when he takes a look to see what has actually happened, we see the shock on his face as he notices he killed the boy and just injured the dad.

  1. David - you have completed 2 of your 4 openings. Still 2 to do. A couple of relevant points regarding enigma and restricted narration through camerawork.

To improve, you also need to consider all 4 technical codes - how the sound, camerawork, miss en scene and editing all combine to create meaning.

    Level 1/2 for this one.
