21 Grams

This opening scene starts off with a man smoking and a girl in bed, asleep perhaps? However, there is not music or sounds at all which insists that maybe perhaps she is actually dead.

Next it cuts to a dad and his two daughters in a cafe eating, looking very ordinary and not unusual. However, from the previous image we do wonder what is going on. After this, we see a scene of a mum talking about her two kids and her husband at what it looks to be a group meeting or therapy. As she discusses her story we wonder whether something bad has happened previously to her or her family.

Thirdly, there is a cut to two men in a cafe and the one on the right looks as if he is the owner because he is very religions wearing crosses as earrings, and then you can see the cross on the wall. They are playing jenga and the owner of the cafe seems to be trying to teach the young man on the right something, or trying to help him. Then the owner says next time the young man will be locked up which shows he is under 18 and has committed a crime. This leads onto him discussing to the man that he should not commit crimes and should read the bible, go to church and believe in Jesus. The criminal finds this hard to believe but then the owner goes on to explain a truck that he owns is there due to Jesus giving to him in  raffle or bid. The real enigma here and mysteriousness is that who is all these people and what link to they have.
