The 180 Degree Rule

The 180 degree rule Is a rule that must be followed when shooting any scene, unless implemented on purpose on rare occasions. The idea is that if you were to have two characters talking in a room, from above, imagine there is a line through both characters. The 180 degree rule states that the cameras used to film the scene must always be on the left side of the characters, or the right, it can never be on both! otherwise the 180 degree rules has been broken.

If the 180 degree is broken the shots become flipped and confused and it can appear like one character is conversing with himself. It is important to follow the 180 degree rule at all times during our filming in order to avoid disorientating the audience.
